Elevenpeaks Socialization begins at birth and continues until they are delivered to your family. Puppy Party with Heidi
Elevenpeaks Socialization begins at birth and continues until they are delivered to your family. Our daughters handle our pups daily and maintain the females who are in whelp. When your puppy arrives at your home it will already be used to handling by small children and you can expect a well adjusted pup for your family.
American Bulldog Drives
A dog has three basic drives and each of them are siginificant for self preservation of the dog and of the pack as a cohesive unit. These drives are motivational needs that shape a dog and are significant behaviours that can be used to better train your American Bulldog.
The pack drive is natures way of organizing leadership in wild dog populations. Your dog or puppy is not part of your family in training terms but rather you and your family have now become a part of the dogs "pack". There are many motivational behaviours and training elements that can be gained by adhereing to strick pack guidlines because your identifying what motivates the dog to act. You as the new American Bulldog owner can yoke this natural drive to curb unwated issues and bring about positive attributes that the dog must learn to become a good canine citizen of your family. Your dog needs the social attention it would get in the wild from you and your family to learn how to work individually so the group as a whole can benafit. This behaviour is necessary in the wild because wild dogs will noyt tolerate pack members who do not "get with the program" because their lives depend upon full pack co-operation and if they do not get that from a single pack member they will find themselves ostracized from the group.
Your dog is a hunter; it eats meat, it kills animals and you had better realize that regardless of the size or the breed of your dog it will hunt and it will eat other animals. In order for the canine to survive they dogs grouped into packs and worked together to bring down much larger animals as well as individual hunting of smaller game. These packs used non verbal communication to track; hunt, chase, attack, kill and eat. Some examples that you may have seen in your american bulldog pup would be sniffing the ground; shaking a toy while in its mouth, stalking of objects like a ball and pouncing upon them, chasing litter mates or just simply standing still and listening.
If you have heard the term fight or flight you understand what defense drive is. When a young pup hears something that may startle him and he runs away may infact induce a fight or a bark at a later age depending upon operant conditioning and basic genetics. To over simplify somtimes you need to run away to live and sometimes you must fight. I have seen dogs that will not back down from anything and will always go into fight drive when threatend and I have also seen dogs simply run. You need to know what your dog will do so you can utilize this information in the way you trian your dog. A hard dog will take a correction and show indifference to you. A soft dog may get his or her spirit broke if you give them a equal correction and this is why you adjust your training methods to the dog because they like humans are not all cookie cutter designs.
